"We all want to be loved over, and over, and over again"

A Chicago librarian suffers from a rare genetic disorder that sends him hurtling through time whenever he is under extreme duress; despite the fact that he vanishes at inordinately frequent and lengthily intervals, he attempts to build a stable future with the beautiful young heiress he loves.

Clare has been in love with Henry her entire life. She believes they are destined to be together, even though she never knows when they will be separated. Despite the fact that Henry's travels force them apart with no warning, Clare desperately tries to build a life with her one true love.

Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams star in this dramatic fantasy, which is directed by Robert Schwentke and based on the best-selling book by author Audrey Niffenegger.

Taschima:

So, first things first, the book is better than the movie. Don't get me wrong, there have been cases which Ive preferred the movie to the book, i.e. The Notebook, but this one the book gave a knock out to the movie and left it grasping for breath.

The Time Travelers Wife's book wins over The Notebook's book, but The Notebook's movie wins over The Time Traveler's Wife movie.

Why you ask? Mainly the characters. They choose very good representatives for Henry and Clare (Clare mostly), but I think I didn't get to know them as well as when I read the book. Actually no, scratch that, I think I didn't get to know Clare as much as I would have wished. They needed to give us more Clare time, and less Henry time, or balance it out somehow.

In other times I thought they went too soft with some of the scenes. In the book there is this one part where the father and the son are talking for the very first time, where Henry makes his father cry. Well it is in the movie, but it isn't as powerful as it should have been. The actors needed to go more harsh, more aggressive, and sadly that didn't happen.

Also they made one of my fave parts of the book vanish. *WHOOSH* Disappear- kind of like Henry. But other than this, the stuff they cut, it didn't really hurt the story in itself, but it surely will make those who read the book a little mad. I was attached to how things went in the book, I would have loved to see the ending of the book in the movie, but that also didn't happen.

And why not put the dates SOMEWHERE on the screen? People can get lost in time! Like, they could have added somewhere a little date or something. Maybe something like the book, the date and age of the characters at said date.

I know this review doesn't sound very happy, and most of you are thinking, why the hell did you gave it a 4.4 then? Well ill tell you now.

The actors were almost perfect (I didnt like the girl they choose for their daughter), and the movie in itself was magnificent. I love Rachel McAdams! I didn't know she was the one on Mean Girls! It's amazing how, in contrast with other actors, she has been able to leave that role behind and make a name for herself in the movie business.

The atmosphere of the movie was also perfect. And yeah, some things could have been better, but all in all, if you want a tantalizing romance story, don't hesitate and go watch this movie. It will make you cry.

Confession time... I teared up.

  1. I've been torn in whether I want to go see this movie or not, I like my "happily-ever-afters" and from the little I do know about this movie, I just don't see a happy ending in sight. As for not really getting to know the characters, I have the same problem when I read a book that later becomes a movie. I think this happens because in a book the reader is able to read what the characters are feeling, everything is spelled out. Where as in a movie this is more subtle, that's just my opinion. Great review. :)

  2. I saw it last night and liked it much better than I thought I would. I agree with your post though - maybe more Clare time - although I wish we could have seen more of Henry struggling when he travels..the horror of it more.

  4. I cried too! :-D I like your review Tasch. I totally agree with what you say about the book being better and that they definitely should have focused more on getting to know the characters themselves. It seemed as though they were so worried about getting 'important' bits from the book in, they forgot about a few scenes dedicated to just them.

But I really liked it :-) It was never going to be perfect but I'd watch it again and would probably get the DVD.

  5. I just saw this too! I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to the book, but I really liked the movie. Rachel McAdams is wonderful- and her smile is adorable. Glad you liked it! I'll have to read the book eventually...

  11. Sorry to say but the movie poster is ugly. The book sounds amazing, though

  12. I didn't read or see this one. Books made into movies is always a tricky thing. Some aren't bad but some do disappoint.

I wasn't a fan of this subject so I didn't subject myself to it. I prefer happy topics. :(

  13. The book is ALWAYS better than the movie. I don't know what movie is better than the book. That's what I've always heard.

Anyway, I watched the movie first and loved it. I don't know how much I'll love the book even more :)
