The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Breaking Movie News! New Director?

Image taken from Tumblr

So Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games, is getting a new director... might this spell disaster? I mean, think about it, the Harry Potter series was going along beautifully until BAM they got a new director for The Prisoner of Azkaban, after that it went in the crapper with some director's making the movies worth while while others... well, crapper.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the new director will be Francis Lawrence, here is some more informationj from their post:
"After a quick but fairly exhaustive search, Lionsgate has chosen Francis Lawrence has been offered the opportunity to direct the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.

Sources say that Lawrence will receive an official offer this afternoon. If he accepts and a deal can be worked out, he will replace Gary Ross, who directed the first installment of the hugely successful franchise.

The hunt had been a fast and furious one, with the field narrowing down to Lawrence, the director of I Am Legend and Water for Elephants, and Bennett Miller, the director of the acclaimed Brad Pitt baseball movie Moneyball. Both directors met with the studio today, according to sources, and Lionsgate executives have made their pick."
No offense Lawrence, but I want Gary Ross back! He did such a good job with the first movie, and made so much money, that it's pretty hard to see why he would leave the franchise. Fear that thunder wont struck twice?

If you are going to get anyone to be the director just go ahead and call up Chris Columbus, he is such a good director. Did a freaking great job with the first two Harry Potter films so imagine him taking on this project... Sigh, a girl can certainly dream.

In other news there is ging to be a sequel to X-Men First Class!!! Quite possibly the best X-Men movie ever! How do I know? From the same article that announces Lawrence as front runner for the director position:
"The moviemakers are facing a ticking clock, especially since Lionsgate has set a Nov. 22, 2013, release date for Catching Fire, the second of four planned movies based on Suzanne Collins' trilogy of books. Also coming into play is that shooing for Fire likely needs to be done by early January so that star Jennifer Lawrence, who is not related to the Austria-born director, can begin shooting the sequel to X-Men: First Class in late January. Fox, which is making that movie, has an option on the actress that supersedes her Lionsgate commitment."
Two awesome movies are coming out next year. Can't wait!

What do you think about the change of director? Potentially good or potentially horrible?

  2. I read that Gary Ross left because the schedule would not give him enough time to make the movie the way he wanted it which has me fearing that not only will Catching Fire have a director that isn't as dedicated to the story as Gary Ross was but that filming will be rushed and it won't be a quality film ugh.

  3. As long as the author co-write and co-produce the movie again and the movie turn out just as great as the first one, I don't care who the director is.
