My Newest Cast Member: Katniss Everdeen

Best Known For: Role as Mia Dearden / Speedy in Smallville. She was the disciple of Green Arrow, I say was because we haven't seen her in a lot of episodes. BRING HER BACK O.o
My Comment: When I saw her act in Smallville the first thing I thought was that she would be a great Katniss. The only problem? Her and Katniss' skin color don't match, but if Robert Downey Jr. could do the part of Kirk Lazarus in Tropic Thunder then everything is possible! Makeup is a wonderful thing. She is a good actress, isn't that what matters at the end?

OH and check THIS out, apparently a cartoon photo of Katniss appears in the UK cover of The Hunger Games...

Don't they look alike?!

Description of Katniss Everdeen:

"Katniss is sixteen years old (later described seventeen in "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay") and is described as having long, black hair, usually in a braid, gray eyes, and olive skin. These traits are common in the Seam, the lower class miners of District 12. She is small in stature and light for her age, being one of the smallest tributes in her games, but due to her outdoor life, she is strong for her size. She also may have a Southern accent. (When Suzanne Collins reads Mockingjay's first chapter, she talks in a Southern accent when Katniss is talking or narrating). Katniss is not very image conscious, for example her hairy legs, as pointed out by Venia, one of her stylists.[4] In the first book, her hearing in one ear was destroyed because of an explosion caused in the arena, but it was fixed in the Capitol in the end, as were all of her other major and more minor injuries including the erasing of any scars. Before entering the arena the first time, Katniss had many minor scrapes and cuts, and her outward appearance was very much imperfect. However, after she won, they were repaired by the Capitol doctors. Most notable about her appearance and demeanor however was the image she unconsciously projected, as noted by her co-tribute Peeta."

Personality:

"Collins has described Katniss as being an independent survivalist, lethal, but good at thinking outside the box. Katniss's past hardships (her father's death, mother's depression, and near starvation) have made her a natural survivor, and she will endure hardship and hard work to preserve her own life and the life of her family."

I have to re read this series, soon...She is perfect, please tell me you think so too!

  2. Wow, I think that she would be perfect as Katniss! I just started reading The Hunger Games, so I'm not all too familiar with the characters just yet, but after seeing the UK pic I knew that there was no competition for who should get the role.

  3. Thank you so much for the picture. She would be awesome for Katniss. I can't wait until they finalize the cast and I hope they pick someone who can act:) You should check out this article at ew.com about the director Gary Ross. I hope he does these characters right.

  4. I can see it. :) I really like the idea of Hailee Steinfeld as Katniss.

  5. I've never seen that actress in action but judging from the photos you posted I think she's too pretty and perfect-looking. Katniss has this rough edge to her which I don't see, at least in those photos.

  6. I'm not familiar with this actress. It is hard to find people to fit the character descriptions due to their age, but that aside I think that she looks like a great Katniss.

  7. I just started Hunger Games and really enjoying, but not far enough in to have a picture of her... you know how the further you go into a book the more the character gets a face.

  9. I haven't read the books yet, but that actress looks perfect compared to that drawing. Good find!

  10. I haven't read the books yet, but she certainly looks ready to fight in one of the photos.
I don't think exactly matching the characters physical description is as important as getting their personality right.

  11. I've never watched her act but she looks pretty close to the image I had of Katniss, still I prefer Alexandra Daddario to play her :)

  13. I love seeing everyone's fantasy movie castings! This girl is so sweet looking but I've never seen her in anything so I can't really judge. I bet she could pull it off though!

  15. I haven't seen her act (that I can remember) but she looks like she could be a Katniss. You're right though, the skin tone is off.

  16. I'm so torn about this role, but I do wish they would hurry and pick someone. The suspense is killer. I think this actress looks well enough, but it comes down to the acting skills in my opinion.

  17. Entry for the contest ;)

I think she could work. Lily Collins is the one who most looked the part to me but I see that she's doing the Mortal Instruments movies so I guess she isn't really a possibility anymore.

  18. She's got the right complexion, but I've never scene any of her work, so I can't really judge whether or not she'd be good for the part.

  19. Wow Elise Gatien and the cartoon photo of Katniss really DO look alike! I (unfortunately) haven't seen any of her work, but I think you should give everyone a chance to impress, no matter if you're a known or unknown actress/actor! :)

  20. I think by the looks she will be a good Katniss and the cartoon and Elise Gatien looks very much alike but I have not seen her act so I can not comment on that but I hope she will do a great job.
The books deserves some great movies to go with them.
