Review: Shadowland by Alison Noel

Title: Shadowland
Series: The Immortals
Book #: 3
Author: Alison Noel
Pages: 368
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Reading Level: Young Adult
Rating:

"Fate is nothing but the deeds committed in a prior state of existence."

It is the third book in the Immortals series. Ever has a problem, any contact with Damen will kill him. In this book she has to figure out how to reverse the effects of the "antidote" given to Damen to make him healthy again.

Ever and Damen have traveled through countless past lives—and fought off the world's darkest enemies—so they could be together forever. But just as their long-awaited destiny is finally within reach, a powerful curse falls upon Damen...one that could destroy everything. Now a single touch of their hands or a soft brush of their lips could mean sudden death—plunging Damen into a bleak afterlife in the Shadowland, an eternal abyss for lost souls. Desperate to break the curse and save Damen, Ever immerses herself in magic—and gets help from an unexpected source...Jude Knight.

Although she and Jude have only just met, he feels startlingly familiar. Despite her fierce loyalty to Damen, Ever is drawn to Jude, a green-eyed golden boy with magical talents and a mysterious past. She's always believed Damen to be her soul mate and one true love—and she still believes it to be true. But as Damen pulls away to save them from the darkness inhabiting his soul, Ever's connection with Jude grows stronger—and tests her love for Damen like never before...

Taschima's POV:

Trying to co live with the bad decision she made in the last book, Ever tries to move on and find some sort of 'normal' in her life. Damon certainly got freaked out when she told him about her wrong choices, but he still keeps loving her. Hurray. However there is trouble in paradise, not that there wasn't before, since an old friend comes back into Ever's life. Not only this but apparently living an immortal life comes attached with some fatal future disasters that not even Damen could predict.

Evermore was a 5 hearts rating, Blue Moon was a 4.5 hearts, and Shadowland has gone down to 3 hearts. Lets just say this is not as good as I thought it would be.

What can I say? When I started this series I, like other people, spotted the similarities between The Immortals and Twilight but after Blue Moon I thought the whole thing was just in the first book Evermore. I couldn't be more wrong. Deep in the core Shadowland is called New Moon.

Though the main character doesn't become a pile of nothingness like Bella since she has found her "wolf" (Jude- Another guy) quite soon. So, I was happy for that. Oh, and Damen? Kept annoying me the whole book. Mr. Damen Cullen walks a fine line between his two persona's. I don't even know who he is anymore really, if a vain but straight forward guy or just a guy that wants to be okay with karma just so his soul doesn't go to hell. I was screaming the whole time DECIDE.

Ugh and the so called friend Haven. Goodness I cannot stand her. She meddles in everything. She gets on my nerves, and I truly don't know why Ever hasn't ditched her. Ever was okay the entire book, she didn't annoy me but she didn't surprise me either. The two characters that I love in this book are Roman and Jude. At least Roman knows who he is. And Jude is so cute and you can understand him.

The parts of the plot that didn't have any similarity with New Moon I liked, though somethings were never answered by the end, like for example she pushed Jude to the other side of the planet (not the other side of the planet but you know exaggerating never hurt anyone) and we didn't know what happen to him. Also something involving her sister, which I am very confused about since I thought that after you cross the bridge you weren't suppose to ever see them again. Please, if someone found the loophole comment and let me know just the page and the book.

Also Ever keeps making crappy decisions; she is very impatient. All in all, I will read the next book if only to know what happen to Jude and Ever's sister and see how it all goes from here. Also I will read it cause I am a series junkie and I just have to know for myself.

Books in the Series:

(I'm sorry if I seem a little harsh, I just write whatever it is I am feeling. I do not mean to trash the book, or the author, or anything like that xD Also I may not have loved it, but you may, so give it a try.)

  1. I hated all the books. I will not read this one unless someone pays me to. :(

Great review. I knew all this was going to happen. A terrible series in my book.

I'm off to get Chinese food for lunch! :)

  2. I think I read somewhere that there is going to be a spin-off series about Ever's sister (for younger readers). Still, that's no excuse for leaving unexplained loopholes in these other books.

  3. Thanks for the review. I loved Evermore, then was really disappointed with Blue Moon, so I'm on the fence about reading the third. After this review, I'm thinking maybe I should skip it. Although, I'm like you, I hate to start a series and not finish.

  6. I'm sad to hear you didn't love this book. I only liked Evermore, and i was hoping they would get better after that, but I'm gathering that's not the case. :-( I still haven't read Blue Moon, though. It's annoying knowing that I'm going to feel like I HAVE to read Shadowland even if I don't like Blue Moon because, like you, I can't NOT finish a series.

  7. I read evermore and I thought it was pretty good but I keep hearing horrible things about the next two books. And in all reviews are comparing to with New Moon, like its copying. I doubt I will read teh next two books!!! Thanks for the review, it comfirms what I have been hearing.

  8. Yes, I agree! Alyson totally copied Twilight!! It became obvious after reading BLUE (or should I say NEW) Moon.
And from the looks of it, Shadowland sounds exactly like Twilight too! Jacob is Jude and Edward is Damen. Edward leaves and Ever (Bella) turns to another friend who loves her.
    I mean, COPY!!!!!!!

You wrote a great review, I know what to expect in Shadowland. :)

  9. I read Evermore and liked it, and I hear okay things about Blue Moon, but I hear nothing good about Shadowland. People are saying that it was the worst one, and that they won't even continue the series after this. I think I'll read it to find out for myself, but I'm not sure.

  11. I was one of the few who didn't enjoy Evermore at all. I wasn't planning on reading the sequels, but I then added them to the "Break a Prejudice" challenge that I joined, where basically, you're supposed to read a book by an author you didn't enjoy the first time around. But I'm planning on getting the library copy. And then, knowing me, I'll be in for the whole series because (like you), I have issues not finishing a series. Anyways, thanks for the review!

  12. I agree with you totally. I didn't like this book. I was really disappointed because I was liking the series before this one. I hope the next book gets better and answers some of the questions from this one. Great review!
