A Rarely Geeky Interview

I recently won a copy of Wings by Aprilynne Pike, and much to my amusement, and delight, it is autographed! It seems like my luck is finally turning around! I won it from Bree Despain's blog, for her '25 random facts about me' post. I was in shock. I never win anything, so this was amazing. Naturally I started jumping up and down via Internet, and Bree just started laughing-keep in mind this is everything via Internet, imagination guys.

A little inf about Bree's book...

A prodigal son

A dangerous love

A deadly secret . . .

I stood back and watched his movements. Daniel had that way about him that could shut me down in an instant. . . . I kicked the gravel a couple of times and worked up my courage again. “Tell me . . . I mean . . . why did you come back? Why now, after all this time?”
Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel's dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

Coming out December 22, 2009.

Anyways, we got to talking, and I found out that Bree is a Buffy fan! I am also a Buffy fan, so we started discussing about the Buffy world, and this is what turned out...

BEWARE: This is kind of a geeky interview.

Taschima: Have u read Buffy season 8? What do you think about it?

Bree Despain: Oh, yes, I have started reading season 8 but kind of petered off after the 8th or 9th issue. Maybe its the having to wait so long between issues, or where the story is going, but I haven't been very exited with it. Then again, I felt the same way with the first 3/4 of season 6, and I would have been very disappointed if I did not finish it out and have season 7 as well.

Taschima: And I just didn't like where the story was going, that is without saying that Spike wasn't on the comic, I mean Buffy without Spike? Nah ah. I loove Spike!

Which do you prefer Spike or Angel?

Personally I like my bad boy ;)

Bree Despain: I do like Angel, but I am a Spike girl all the way! I was so hoping he would be in the Buffy comic . . .

Actually, I kind of always had Spike (with a soul) in the back of mind as I was writing Daniel in THE DARK DIVINE. I just love me a bad boy who needs to be redeemed. I'd say Daniel is actually a good mix between Angel and Spike, with a few other guys from my life mixed in.

You might disagree with me, but I've always secretly wanted Buffy and Xander to ultimately end up together. He's the one guy in her life that has always been there for her. And I'm a total sucker for the "falling in love with your best friend" plot line.

I haven't read a Buffy comic in a while, but I think I will have to pick it up again just so I can see where it all ends.

Taschima: Well i stopped buying them all together lol I didn't have money so, it was sad.

And now I want to read your book even mooore! Knowing that little fact about your male character "Daniel". Who doesn't love a bad boy?

I also love the falling-for-ur-best-friend plot, but never imagined Buffy and Xander together, I could sort of imagine Willow and Xander, but when she self proclaimed herself lesbian a light went up in my head and that's when it all made sense! Best partner for Xander is Anya, and Willow should have stayed with... am... whats her name...

Bree Despain: Tara?

Oh, but I did love Oz a ton. I was so so sad when he left the show! I was mad at Willow for weeks for letting him go for Tara.

After this we kind of ate cookies in the form of Spike ^^

  2. Congrats on your win! I hope you like Wings. It wasn't my favorite book, but I have a feeling I"m a bit old for it.

  3. Oh gawd I hate season 8, I mean really? Dawn is a giant? I just think they went way too sci-fi with it. Now if you want an amazing closer for both Buffy and Angel you should read Queen of the Slayers. :)

  5. I wish I understood all the Buffy references. I've only watched, like, ten episodes of that show. The things I did see, though, were really good :] Bree seems really chill!

  6. Haha, geektastic! Personally, I always liked Spike more than Angel. He was cooler, and I always thought Angel was kind of a softy. But then, I was young, and I only watched a few seasons, so *shrug* I'm no expert. :)

    C. The Dark Devine - is it fantasy or sci-fi or is it more of a murder mystery?

  12. Thanks for the geektastic interview. It was fun to dish about my Buffy-love with a fellow fan.

To anyone who hasn't watched Buffy: Go do it now! It's required viewing in my world--along with Veronica Mars and Friday Night Lights. :-)

And just to clarify, I'm not anti-Tara. As much as I missed Oz's hilariousness, I agree that Tara should have stayed on the show forever.

Okay, enough Buffy references for one comment! Thanks again for the interview. I've been out of town, but now that I'm back, I'll get your copy of Wings off in the mail.
