Ever since the death of his shellan, Tohrment is a heartbroken shadow of the vampire leader he once was. Brought back to the Brotherhood by a self-serving fallen angel, he fights again with ruthless vengeance- and is unprepared for a new tragedy. Seeing his beloved in dreams—trapped in a cold, desolate netherworld—he turns to the angel to save his former mate, only to despair at the path he himself must take to set her free. As war with the lessers rages, and a new clan of vampires vies for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between an unforgettable past, and a future that he doesn’t know he can live with… but can’t seem to turn away from.
Taschima's POV:
I had totally forgotten how incredibly fabulous J.W. Ward's books could be! Damn, this one was ten times better than the last one! Keep in mind that this is book number 10 in the series, and it keeps getting better. I didn't think I could get into Thor's story, but I sooo did, his story, No'One's story, JM and Xhex's story, the Band of Bastards (mother f's trying to take my husband's place? Over my dead body!), Lassiter (my new number 3, I love this guy... it was so freaking good from beginning to end.
If you have made it this far into the series true to form is you don't need a re cap and basically know whats going on till now (if not look at the summaries in goodreads because this is book 10 and there's a LOT going on, too much for me to explain in this review). I just have to say that this rich, sensual, dangerous, and exciting book is just off the grid. It's over 500 pages and they went by in a breeze. This is Thor's and No One's story. It's about repentance, it's about mourning, it's about re pairing the bonds of family, it has it's emotional side but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's ass kicking side as well. That is what is so good about this series, the combination of romance plus urgency and battle that just sums up to epic. I loved every minute of it, and I just don't wanna get very into the story because I don't wanna do any spoilers for anyone who hasn't read it... but seriously you have to read it. So. Good.
I loved how J. R. Ward wasn't done with JM and Xhex. To be completely honest I was a bit disappointed with their book cause well I didn't have closure and I thought something was... missing. Needless to say that in this book JM and Xhex go through some serious trouble in their relationship, that made the whole thing that much more believable and precious. The way these two came to understand and respect each other... Nothing less than beautiful and what every couple should have.
Lassiter? Oh that bastard. That freaking lovable bastard. You understand I love him right? I can't wait for his book, he just knows how to pull off the cocky, while being comedic, while at the same time being serious. I am really freaking interested in your story. Hopefully that will come soon enough.
In reality, there is nothing to complain about. Everything was handle with care, nothing was rushed, it was calculated and it made sense. No bullshitting when it comes to The Black Dagger Brotherhood, none at all.
The future book: It's going to be incredible. Qhinn and Blay... FINALLY! This story has been brewing since as long as I can remember. You guys, seriously, I want to read the next book SO BAD. It sounds like it's going to be one for the ages.
