A WTF Moment

I was browsing between different blogs and I found this...

This was at A Flight of Minds, so if you want to read what Alex has to say, and boy I say read it ,click here.

I never thought I'd see the day where the classics would be put to such lows. But I guess if you wait long enough, you get to see everything crash and burn. You know that red circle over there? For those of you who don't see it, it says:"Bella and Edwards Favorite Book."

Yeah, it's no longer a GREAT CLASSIC, nooO! In fact forget about the richness of the writing, cause that is clearly NOT important. Nor the authors imagination. No, you have to buy it because its "Bella and Edwards Favorite Bloody Book." Emily Bronte is probably having a fit in her grave.

Does everything have to be Twilightised? I mean, even Evermore people bought it because "it was very similar to Twilight." Not to be a party pooper to those Twilight fans out there, because really, Twilight ain't the problem, the book itself ain't the problem. It's the bloody fanaticism that is making me bloody mad! Bed Sheets, spoons, not surprise if we get to see diapers with the form of Edwards face.

This book has been in my 'Classic's to read before I die' pile for the longest time. And you know what I hate the most? Is that I actually like the cover. It's, like Alex said, very Twilight-esque. They made it look like a YA novel. Less threatening, so that people might actually read it.

Actually, if you want to change the cover of a classic, be my guest, but just don't put on the bloody front, like it's the only reason in the world to buy it, that since is some fictional character's favorite book, it's going to be yours too.

And since I'm already babbling about Twilight I will leave you guys with a pic to the new Volturi cast.

Since I wasn't a big fan of the movie, I'm not dying to watch the second one. But who knows, miracles do happen... I think.

PS; Dakota looks kick ass. And what do you know, the movie is being released on my B-day, November 20.

  1. I agree with you. It seems that every day something new Twilight related has to come out. BTW they are also turning Stephanie Meyer in a comic heroine.

  2. I am not one bit surprise they are tying Twilight to everything udner the sun. It means MORE MONEY! Welcome to America. :)

  3. I know what you mean about the stupid franchise. It was nice at first, to see Twilight being recognized, like Harry Potter did. But it just went out of control! Just the other day I saw an EdwardGoogle. Definitely a WTF moment.

  4. Waitwaitwait, what comic? Like her own, or is she appearing in an already established comic? DC or Marvel?... Okay, nevermind. Just Googled it. It's worse than I thought. It's about her! And her rise to fame! XP Gak!
I officially agree, they have gone TOO FAR!

  5. Wow, that's awful. I don't even like Wuthering Heights and I think that's awful.

  6. P.S. Dakota does look awesome! I'll have to watch the movie, but just for her sake, and I'm not gonna go on the opening weekend or buying the DVD. I just hope it's better than the first one, it was a laugh fest. If it's no better, than I'm throwing in the towl on the whole series. But even if it is good, I think I'm gonna skip out on the last movie, the spawn is disgusting.

  7. I've actually loved Wuthering Heights since I read it a zillion years ago and I can NOT believe it is being disrespected like this. Wow. I don't even know what to say. Thanks Taschima for the post-- glad we are of similar opinions. :)

  8. Even though I love Twilight, that's a little ridiculous.

I mostly said what I had to say at Alex's blog.

My opinion on the Volturi? I don't like how Marcus looks... but Dakota does look bad-ass. I have a feeling this one will be better than Twilight.

I'm still pretty pissed off about Eclipse though. I hate when people replace actors. Ugh.

  9. =O I saw this a little while ago on another blog somewhere. It saddened me greatly.
The second one is suppose to be so much better though. New director, even the cast says it's better and less of an 'indie' film.
    I dunno.
    Hmm.

  10. Oh. My. God. I think I will go into a corner and vomit somewhere. Sad, is all I can say. Very sad.

  11. That cover doesn't even match the book. They DID make it look like a YA novel! Now when they're putting the stamp of fictional characters' approval on books, we know we have a problem...

  12. i know twilight is like some planet now!
    the Volturi creep me out.

  13. I'll be honest. I did read this one because I wanted to understand the passages Bella and Eward mention. But once I did I instantly realized why it was a classic. It's amazing. I love this book.

  14. This is my theory, not many teens pick up the classics, hey the only reason I read most of the classics is because I majored in English when I was in college. By the way Wuthering Heights is a good classic to read. I feel the cover is a little Twilightish, but it's a good way to capture the attention of teens who don't even know who Emily Bronte is...I know crazy right? I'm sure their out there. But again your right my love, classics are classic for a reason, don't fuck with the cover lol ;P

  15. Oh and by the Taschima, I love that Mandy Moore song on your playlist and also the remakes of the Beatles song from Across the Universe, I love that movie!

  16. Aside from the fact that Wuthering Heights made me want to slit my wrists, this Twilight shit needs to stop. They re-did the cover of one of my favorite vampire movies, Near Dark, to look closer to something like Twilight. Oh man are those Twitards in for something else when they actually watch that movie, thinking it's another glittery love-fest. O_O how I wish I could be a fly on the way for that one.

Near Dark doesn't need Twilight to sell it. Please. Don't insult my vampire love.

  17. That is sooo totally F'd up. I swear if they go tampering with my beloved Jane Eyre, I'm gonna open up a big ole can of whoop ass on someone and no one will be able to stop me. I have all of Jane Austen's works and I have Wuthering Heights. They are so totally screwing over the classics and I bet Emily is rolling over in her grave right now. Wuthering Heights has been in print for over 150 years. It doesn't need the assitance of Bella and Edward to become popular because it already is.

  18. As atrocious as that is, let's cling to the hope that someone Twihard will find it, realize how much better it is than "Twilight," and their life will be forever changed.

At least that's what I'll be doing.

  19. You are so funny! Love the post I completely agree its not the books its the stupid fans that drive me crazy too!!! Oh Btw you have an award on my site =)

  20. Do you know why this happened? I read, on the Bookshelves of Doom I believe, that French booksellers noticed that all these French Twihards buying Wuthering Heights for some strange reason, and then they realised why. Guh, marketing departments make me want to vomit!

  22. @TheBookWars Thank you! For the compliment and the award *blush*

@Rhiannon Hart will read it right away, thank you!

  23. Wow, they really will do anything to sell a book. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but it was only Bella's favorite...sorry...Twilight fan. :)Either way, that's really sad. I haven't read Wuthering Heights yet, but plan to eventually.

  25. Have you seen the covers for the Mortal Instruments series? I know it's newer and not a classic, but at least one of them seems to have been Twilightised as well. Right ON THE COVER it has a quote from an author.
City of Bones says: "Funny, dark, and sexy. One of my favorite books." - Holly Black
City of Glass says: "Hold on tight for a smart, sexy thrill ride." - Libba Bray
And the biggest quote goes to...
City of Ashes say: "The Mortal Instruments series is a story world that I love to live in. Beautiful!" - Stephanie Meyer Author of Twilight

I guess none of the other people who had quotes on the covers wrote books. At least, not books that were better than Twilight.
They put it on the cover so that people will think that they'll like it because Stephanie Meyer liked it and she wrote Twilight and they liked that.

  26. Ok that cover makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thank God I read that book years ago coz if not, I'm never ever going to read that with those words (Bella and Edward's...) in front!

Like, who ever thought about such thing? Why did everything have to be associated with Twilight?

  28. Dakota Fanning is playing as Jane!? Whaaaat? Ugh.
