Bloody Bookaholic's Commandment:

Thou Shall Read Till Thy Eyes Bleed

Please Change My Mind

I know I haven't been very active lately (a thing I have to change) but still from a galaxy far away I came across the news of the new Hunger Games cover.

And I am here to beg ask you followers to tell me your thoughts on this cover, because if you ask me, am, I expected a bit more =[

I think it's the blue thing they have going on. Because I like the bird (freedom) and the symbols on the back of the bird (which are a thing of The Hunger Games covers).

But I don't think this one really goes with the others. I would have loved more dark colors, which would have contrasted well with the white of the bird. Maybe it was the shock of finally seeing the book cover for the first time after I had been waiting so long for it. Maybe it was just high expectations, or maybe it was I expected something similar to the other covers.

And wasn't the title suppose to be The Victors? I guess this means the Mockingjay will be a big part of the book, right?

Even though I may have not got what I expected, I can't wait to read the conclusion as long as Gale doesn't end up with Katniss.

*hears the crowd screaming Peeta, Peeta*

That's the spirit.

  1. I have to agree with your assessment of the cover. While I'm super-amped that the cover and title have been released, I would have imagined something a bit more... powerful for the cover.

I'm going to agree that it's the blue. The bird is cool and I like the background graphics. And since I saw it yesterday, I've decided that it would be better if it were a much darker blue. That's just my opinion, of course.

But whatever it looks like, it's going to be a very exciting release!

  3. I'm with you on this one girl, I really don't like it. What's up with the baby blue and the title? It's so not creative. Blah, hopefully the content is worth it, which I'm sure it is :)

  4. Still haven't read Catching Fire, but I have to say I agree with you on the cover for the third book. I was expecting some darker tones as well. And while I haven't read Catching Fire yet, I was a little surprised by the title too. Oh well. Here's to hoping it's awesome anyways! :)

  5. Hmm, I can't decide if a love it or not either. I do like the color though, but I liked the rumored title of The Victors better. I'm sure it will grow on me :) Haha the post made me laugh really hard though! I actually like Gale AND Peeta (eek I'm torn). I can't wait to see what happens!

  6. I have not read the books yet but i can see where they light blue dosnt match the black and red of the other, maby a darker blue (i really dont like blue actually) would have been better? or a forest green or deep purple.. it just looks.. baby powderish haha.

  7. I like it as a stand alone cover but when I think about them sitting on my bookshelf together I just think it will look weird if that makes any sense.

  8. yeah...I thought this cover would be more dynamic...it seems a little plain and simple to me. That being said, of course it wont keep me from buying the book...but there is so much going on in these books you would think they could come up with something more interesting.

  9. I have yet to read Catching Fire (I know, WHAT is wrong with me?)but I'm reaaally hoping that Kat ends up with Peeta. Peeta is just. too. sweet!!

I saw the cover last night and after having sleeping off my post-OMG! moment, I can see what you mean. The paleness of the blue contrasts very much with the last two book's dark covers. Maybe the ending will be more hopeful and the light cover conveys that? Or am I reading too much into that....? o_o!

  10. My thing with the cover, besides the blue thing, is the lack of the circle. The other two covers have prominent circles this one may have a sort of shadowy halo around the bird but it just doesn't look as graphic as the first two covers.

  11. It's ok! I'm not the biggest fan of the cover either! I do like the bird for freedom (i think it's "freedom from the capitol" or something) and the blue doesn't go for me either!

  12. I agree with you...the cover seemed a bit under-whelming compared to the previous covers. It's not so much that I don't like the blue cover don't mind , but maybe a dark shade would have worked better. I'm OK with the bird being the focal point, but I'm 'ehhh' on the title.

I guess you could say I'm luke warm.

  13. Lol. Can't agree with you about Gale. But I understand your feelings on the cover. I actually really like it, though it was nothing like what I was expecting. I think I figured they'd go with a gold or something like that to sort of pull the two previous covers together. It will be very interesting to hear about the process later on down the line.

  14. I think it is a nice fit for the book. I would hope that this book has a resolution for the conflict that Katniss will be free - not to mention others at the end of the third book.

**I haven't read the second book yet (it is calling my name but I haven't gotten to it). But I would assume that is what would be going on with the series.

  15. I haven't read this series yet, but I was a bit surprised when I saw this cover. The bird is beautiful, but I think your right and the color is just strange when seen along with the other two.

  16. I love the blue on the cover, perfect shade. I would have liked a dark color, but it being the last book, I guess it has to be different than the other two covers, to make it stand out :D

  17. Team Gale! Now that I got that out yes I wasn't impressed with the cover. It fits the story but to be honest none of the 3 covers were ones that would have made me pick up the books if I didn't know what they were about.

It would have been nicer to have a bigger contrast with the mockingjay but maybe it's lighter on purpose to indicate some sort of lighter and happier times to come?

  18. At first I wasn't thrilled with it because it was so different from the other two but thing about how the second book ended and what's coming up in the third. It's fitting. Liberation.

  19. wish I could help, I still have not read this series. Sad Sad I know

  20. I actually like the cover. I really like the Mockingjay. The blue gives it a hopeful feel- I wonder if that's deceiving? *Sigh* It will be so long before we find out! Can't wait.

  21. I think that the cover is very accurate. The bird means freedom, and if the cover were dark like the others the effect wouldn't be the same. In my opinion the cover is perfect. It makes me think of victory, of a happy ending.

About Peeta or Gale... It's not fair following a team, because we know Peeta much more than Gale. Anyway, I also prefer Peeta to stay with Katniss :)

  22. I was a little surprised by the blue. I like the bird, but the blue caught me offguard. I expected a burnt orange, or even a yellow. something fierce and/or dark. maybe the blue is supposed to represent peace? since the other books have had darker colors and have been more about rebellion and violence?

I don't know. And I'm The Hunger Games' Team Switzerland.

  23. wanted midnight blue. but artwork is good. Team Gale.

  24. I really like the cover, especially the background. The blue represents hope and the circles, that have been on all three books backgrounds, represents the 13 different districts and that the broken circle might represent district 13.(?) Also in the other covers the bird has been sort of....squished, and in this one the birds wings are spread out and is flying freely. I think this represents Katniss and that in this book she won't be repressed by the Capitol or Haymitch or anybody.

    I cant wait until August!!

    *Team Peeta*
