"There's nothing frightening in the dark if you just face it."

Caught in the struggle between good and evil . . . Cassie has joined the most alluring—and deadly—in-crowd imaginable. But power comes with a price, and it's more dangerous than she knows. Torn between the dueling desires of the two leaders of the Secret Grcle, she must ultimately choose between saving all of New Salem, and her own dangerous love for the bewitching Adam, which threatens to tear the circle apart.

In the ultimate battle between good and evil, will Cassie's supernatural powers be strong enough to lead the coven out of danger? Or will she foil prey to the dark forces within? . . . will she sacrifice her love for the circle to survive?

Taschima's POV:

I liked this one better than the first two. That's a given. The first two are ok, kind of slow, but this ones pick up where the other two left off and at top speed.

Cassie is in the most elite club in her little town. She is sorrunded by friends and enemies, but she is not feeling like herself. She is feeling evil. Things she never thought she would do are happening rather easily and too quickly. And another killing happen in town, who did it? Will Cassie be able to save not only herself, but the whole circle?

Let me start by saying that yes this one is better than the first two but that doesn't mean it's outstanding. It's a good light read by L.J.Smith. The characters are ok, the writing is ok, the story line is ok. So, it's an overall ok.

What I liked about this one was that something was always happening. There wasn't time to stop, the plot kept moving along. The characters were alright. I liked the twins, and Nick. A little stereotypical, though they had their surprises. And you get to know about them all, although the story evolves around the relationship between Cassie, Adam and Diana. Oh oh! A love triangle, or is it? Oh but the story don't have much romance, just a few spots here and there. Its more about friendship, right and wrong, and magic.

Oh and it can be kind of cheesy too xD Most of the time you know what will happen, and it had an expected, but still very good, ending.

If you are an L. J. Smith fan you will love this one.

  3. I love LJ's early work, but the novel (*ahem* The Vampire Diaries The Return: Nightfall) she's published recently really let me down.

  6. Funny, when I first read this and the rest of her series back in the 90s I loved Vampire Diaries and thought this one was just ok. After re-reading them recently I thought TVD were kind of cheesy but enjoyed the Secret Circle books a lot more. Guess that over 15 years give or take my tastes have changed. LOL.
