Not alive. Not dead. Somewhere in between lie the Beautiful Dead. There's been no sign of the Beautiful Dead for weeks. Darina achingly misses Phoenix all over again. Surely he will return to help solve the remaining mysteries.
It's been almost a year since Arizona drowned in Hartman Lake. Suicide, it would seem. But something doesn't add up...Drowning herself in the lake does not sound like strong, confident, Arizona: Ellerton high school's high-maintenance drama queen. Darina must help Arizona the way she helped Jonas. But invisible wings are beating, the Beautiful Dead are in danger, and time is running out...
Taschima's POV:
A couple of weeks have passed since we solved the mystery of Jonas, but still no peep from the Beautiful Dead. Darina supposes is because they are recuperating, but you never know in the world of the dead. One instance there here, and the next... Well, never mind that, they need her, she needs them, only together may they be able to heal in order to move on. But they haven't contacted her in various weeks, and Arizona doesn't have much time left...
They say she killed herself, but if you knew her you would know that that idea is ludicrous. Arizona would never do that, not her. But not even she remembers how she died, so it may have still happened. That is what Darina is here to do, look for the answer, be the investigator who is only contacted by the dead to solve creepy murders, and her reward is to spend a little more time with her dead boyfriend, we all have problems.
I enjoy this series because its light, deep, and dark. Its delicate somehow. The characters are interesting, their problems occult, and the adventure that occurs in between the start and the finish is fairly entertaining.
But, this book was a little too alike its first book. The same kind of drama, different story, though the changes are definitely worth the reading. Plus if you like the series as a whole and want to know how things end (though I have a fairly good idea of how it will end) I recommend to pick up this book and eat it up in one sitting.
Still, I am hoping to be shocked, impressed, with some dark and twisty plot twist. The potential is still there, will the author use it with no mercy? I sure hope so. Will read the third installment, whenever it comes out. Meanwhile, read this series, it's good. It's like an entree, not the whole dinner. Light, interesting, and a tad enchanting.
