Swooning Saturdays #2

**Swooning Saturdays Meme; inspired by Waiting on Wednesday which is hosted by Breaking The Spine. Swooning Saturdays however is not only for the upcoming books you wish to read, but for old and new books you wish to read that have beautiful covers. Swooning Saturdays is hosted by Bloody Bookaholic**

Welcome back to another Swooning Saturday!

Swooning definition:
To be overwhelmed by ecstatic joy.

And why did I clicked on these books instead of the others?
Oh my, because they had beautiful covers.

Reading level: Young Adult
Paperback: 448 Pages
Publisher: Orb Books
Publish Date: June 8, 2010

When a stranger offers her a small fortune to break into a traveling magician’s wagon, Kim doesn’t hesitate. Having grown up a waif in the dirty streets of London, Kim isn’t above a bit of breaking-and-entering. A hard life and lean times have schooled her in one lesson: steal from them before they steal from you. But when the magician catches her in the act, Kim thinks she’s done for. Until he suggests she become his apprentice; then the real trouble begins.

Kim soon finds herself entangled with murderers, thieves, and cloak-and-dagger politics, all while trying to learn how to become both a proper lady and a magician in her own right. Magic and intrigue go hand in hand in Mairelon the Magician and The Magician’s Ward, two fast-paced novels filled with mystery and romance, set against the intricate backdrop of Regency England.

Beautiful cover and interesting summary, me likie, me wantie.

THOUGH! Reminds me JUST A BIT of Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore and A Spy on the House by Y. S. Lee. Even the cover reminds me of Magic Under Glass (the first cover).

Reading level: Young Adult
Paperback: No Inf.
Publish Date: January 1, 2011

There is no summary for this book YET, but here is a little blurb from Publisher's Marketplace, which I found at Dark Faerie Tales.

"
Joy Preble’s HAUNTED, the sequel to DREAMING ANASTASIA, in which a girl is being haunted by a mysterious and malevolent mermaid, for publication in 2011."

I didn't know there could be a sequel to Dreaming Anastasia, but apparently there is! But what I'm thinking is that it is with a different character or something, I don't know, but that doesn't make it a Dreaming Anastasia book does it? I'm wondering how the author is going to tie this two books together.

What I like about this cover is how it holds true to the first Dreaming Anastasia book.

Very Pwetty. BUT! I think I'm leaning a bit more on the Dreaming Anastasia cover than Haunted. What about you?

And, in your opinion, which cover is better this week? A Matter of Magic? Or Haunted?

  1. I already have both Mairelon the Magician and The Magician's Ward but, dang, that cover is lovely. I think I'll have to buy it just for the prettiness.

  4. Oh swoon! I want all three books AND all three dresses. Especially that first one. I would love to get around in a gown like that.

  5. So is the first one two previously published novels in one, then? The new cover is really lovely! Joy Preble's novels have great covers, too, although...more mermaids? My next book is about a mermaid too! Why did I just HAVE to write about a mermaid at the same time as everyone else?

  7. I've been wanting to read a mermaid book for a long time! I'll have to get it. And I read Dreaming Anastasia. I thought it was good. I also kind of like the Dreaming Anastasia cover more. I like the purple and blue though on the Haunted one. I'll have to read that one once it comes out.
