Anyways, as I was saying, I was goodies!! I found some UK covers that might just blow your mind.
Lets begin...
There are always two version's to a cover, but in this post we are putting the
US and the UK head to head to see who comes with the best cover.
Our contestants are...
Round 1
The Lighting Thief by Rick Riordan
US-UK
Ok, I like... both. Seriously! Yeah the first one may seen like a book for middle school kids but thats it's charm (and remember I like the original Sookie Stackhouse covers more soooo... But the second one seems like a book more teenage boys would go for. With the whole WAR concept plastered in the front. Hey I would pick up the book (but probably put it back...). The second one has two parts. One that is sort of, am, aggressive and another part that has a 'doomed' mood. I say that the UK looks better, but for me US has a special place in my heart.
So, I guess they both win this round!
Round 2
The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
US-UK
The sequel to The Lighting Thief, The Sea of Monsters is pretty Aweeesooomeee (yes, with capital a). In this round I have t go with the US. Ive read this book, and I think the US cover covers more of what is IN the book. Plus I love the combination of the big eye, the ship, the kids running for their lives, and the color. The UK one is very movie-ish don't you think? Again, I think more teenager boys would rather pick the second cover to the first.
So this one if US win.
Round 3
The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan
US-UK
I just love them boooth! I love the mood of the first color, not to mention the cover. Very dark. BUT! I think I like the UK one even more... The whole fact that the kid is actually riding the horse gives it more action, and I like the background and the color. Do I have any guy followers here?!?! Guys, what would you pick? And girls, what would you pick?
This one is a UK win!
Round 4
The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan
US-UK
Wow, I love that dragon!!! Don't you? It looks so majestic and bad ass. Now I am really confused. I like the dragon so much, but at the same time I think the US cover again covers most of the key events on the book. The labyrinth, the boy, the sword, the sarcophagus... I gotta say this one goes for the US.
Round 5
The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan
US-UK
The special effects of the Uk cover are very cool, but I think I'm liking the US one better. Call me a dork, I just love the drawings (even though the look made for a younger age). The UK covers are more posters for a movie coming near you, while the US covers look like a book you read in your childhood that you never want to let go. And I go for the childhood book.
US win!
I know that this round a lot of people are going to be all NOOO UK's are better!!! And they kind of are, but I fell in love with the US covers (kind of like I did with the Sookie Covers), and love is hard to forget.
For me is...
R1. US and UK
R2. US
R3. UK
R4. US
R5. US
So US won Round 13!!! What do you think? Am I going crazy for the lack of sleep?
I must say I like the UK covers. They attract my attention much more than the US covers do.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this series (and p.s. I'm a huge fan of the original sookie stackhouse covers as well)! here are my picks:
ReplyDeleteR1.UK
R2.US
R3.US
R4.US
R5.UK
Oh and by the way have you picked up Dead In The Family yet? I just bought it today and can hardly contain my excitement to crack open the binding!!!
US, totally, hands down, for all of them. There's something about the UK ones I find slightly unappealing, while the US ones are innocent and sweet looking while also being mysterious and fantastical.
ReplyDeleteUndecided. I have the US ones in my classroom and I've always liked them - the kids do too. I do really like the 1st and the 4th UK ones though!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the US covers on this series. Usually I prefer UK covers, but I would never pick up the series if they were only available in the UK covers.
ReplyDeleteUK wins hands down for me for all of them. The US ones seem ... more childish.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I like all US. :)
ReplyDeleteHmm I have to disagree. I prefer the UK cover in most of these cases, but the US ones aren't bad! I just like how pretty and shiny the UK ones are (:
ReplyDeleteI say that the US wins all the way. I would be more partial to the UK versions if that annoying helmet and cross-swords wasn't there in the middle of each cover. I find that it takes away from the beauty of the cover underneath. Still, I think that the UK covers are too "trying too hard" sci-fi; they just have too much going on.
ReplyDeleteI like the US on the First Two but then it gets hard and i'm having troble chosing after that.there all nice cover art.

Sorry but I'm a have to go with the Uk
ReplyDeleteI like the U.S. covers better because I find the U.K. have too much writing on them. The print distracts me. Although, I do agree that the U.S. covers make me think these are middle school books which is why I've yet to read these. I need to though.
ReplyDeleteUS, for sure!
ReplyDeleteI like some thing on all the covers. I cant choose
ReplyDeleteThese are hard to pick between. I like the UK covers and the consistency but that also became confusing to me. We older eyes that don't distinguish quickly I think I would go with the US covers that show each new book/adventure clearly.
ReplyDeleteThis is a little hard. The UK covers are very good.
ReplyDelete1.US
2.UK
3.Both
4.UK
5.Both
Still a fan of the US covers for all.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I like the UK covers way better than the US.. (hides) I've read this whole series and I love it and the UK cover just seem to fit a lot more to me.. they're just very well done!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen all five before so I have no prior influence(except for book one).
ReplyDeleteHere's my picks
1-US
2-UK
3-US
4-US
5-either(both are good)
I like the US covers too. The UK covers look fierce, but in a cheesy kind of way...
