Bloody Bookaholic's Commandment:

Thou Shall Read Till Thy Eyes Bleed

Wednesday 29 July 2009

Welcome to the Spotlight

I have had a couple of interviews with published authors, debut authors, and even characters of a book, but I have never had an interview with an aspiring author.

So I searched and found -a couple of weeks, ok a month ago- my perfect candidate. She, yes it's a she, is spectacular. She is funny, and also a fellow blogger. She reviews, interviews, and creates some wicked posts that leave you laughing out loud.

But most important, she is an aspiring author.

*Enter stage right* Steph Bowe, from Hey! Teenager of the Year.

When did you start your blog?

I started Hey, Teenager of the Year in March of 2009. I suggest you go there and find out how very nice it is (it's very, very nice).

So Steph, you are an aspiring YA author, what made you want to stick that pen into the ink?

It's just something I've always done. I really enjoy it, and it's something I'm always motivated to do. I think exactly why it's writing and not tap dancing will always remain a mystery.

What inspired you to write?

I'm not sure what inspired me to begin writing, it's just something I've always done. But on a day-to-day basis, writing isn't something I necessarily need to be inspired to do, it's just a habit I've gotten into. I'm still undecided as to whether it's a good habit or a bad habit.

When did your passion for literature began?

I think it started with The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. It was all uphill from there.

What is your current story about?

I can't tell you. It's a matter of national security (or, you know, it's so bad I can't talk about it or else I'll realise how very bad it really is and be unable to go on).

How many stories have you written? What are they called?

I've written a lot of stories. They were mostly really bad, particularly the ones I wrote prior to about ten minutes ago. I did a whole list of my stories on my blog - mostly failures - which you can check out here.

Do you currently have an agent and/or publisher?

No. But I'm working very hard towards that.

Any extra activities?

Blogging, reading, writing, school is pretty much it. I don't have a whole lot of spare time outside of that, though I do enjoy photography and, occasionally, cooking.

Steph is a blast to talk with. And again her posts are original and hilarious, most of them. I am sure she will do great in the future to come. Now if you want to know more about Steph click here.

Please visit her blog, and read her stories, it will be worth your time.

Now out of the interview world, and into the book world. Today I found out, from various Bloggers but mainly from Shayla from The Book Explorer, that the first chapter of Blood Promise is out and about!!!

If you want to read it click here, or on the top of the page along side with the excerpt from The Van Alen Legacy.

Again thanks for following, and keep spreading the blogger love.

  1. MHaha. I saw that on someone elses blog (The Blood Promise) and new I needed to post it so you could see it. It was mandatory just in case you weren't on for me to tell. XD

  2. Oooh. Forgot to add the part about the interview. Meh.
I like the idea of doing interviews with aspiring authors. You should do that occasionally. Mhmm.

  3. Steph's hilarious in a way I can aspire to be; somewhat dry and everything delivered with a straight face I imagine. If I think something is funny, I'm smiling and laughing before I can even finish getting it out.
And there's no such thing as a bad idea, only an undeveloped or unexplored one. Maggie Stiefvater and Becca Fitzpatrick both said that you should just stick it out to the end and polish, polish, polish. I think that's the best advice I've read. Good luck, Steph!
