Praised by writers from Stephen King to Stephenie Meyer, Suzanne Collins’ New York Times bestselling Hunger Games trilogy is dark, captivating, and deeply thought-provoking. Part straight-up survivalist adventure, part rich allegory, and part political thriller, the series has become a new YA favorite.
The Girl Who Was On Fire offers even more to think about for teen readers already engrossed by the Hunger Games. From the trilogy's darker themes of violence and social control to reality television, fashion, and weaponry, the collection's exploration of the Hunger Games by other YA writers reveals exactly how rich, and how perilous, protagonist Katniss’ world really is.
The Girl Who Was On Fire covers all three books in the Hunger Games trilogy.
Taschima's POV:
This kind of books are awesome, and specifically this one is amazing! The essays are so good! There are 13 essays (for 13 districts?) in total, some have to do with fashion, psychology, PSTD among the winners of The Hunger Games, Team Katniss, and so much more. Theres something for everybody.
When the people at Smart Pop contacted me about reviewing this one I was so psyched!!! Any fan of The Hunger Games would be. I first learned about Smart Pop when I bought their essays on A New Dawn, I was soo into Twilight and this book was a life saver. I read it before I got Breaking Dawn because it wasn't out yet. Anyways this book is as good as A New Dawn was, if not better (let me think about it... definitely better). The authors talk about various parts of The Hunger Games with such insight that it make you think "holly crap how did I not see it? Why wasn't this clear to me from the get go?"
After I reads this book I immediately picked up The Hunger Games and started re reading it. Cinna is by far one of my favorite characters in the book, before reading The Girl Who Was on Fire I didn't paid much attention to him, but after reading the essay on fashion I got to say that he is one of the bravest most creative characters ever. Also after re reading The Hunger Games (and reading an essay that talked about the love triangle thing in The Girl Who Was on Fire) is hard to see where anyone got the idea that Katniss could ever end up with Gale, Peeta is such a sweet heart and clearly the right choice. Oh and also, I'm Team Katniss, she is the best. You will understand if you read The Girl Who Was on Fire, it really is an eye opener. Not to say that that all the essays will appeal to just everybody, there was one heavily on the science part that didn't interest me at all, but for the most part is so good.
Which is why I'm giving it away to a lucky Hunger Games fan!! If you love The Hunger Games as much as I did say Aye!

How many times have I not read it?! Book one received at least 6 reads since everytime a kid or their friend read it I had to keep back up, Book 2 has gotten 4 so far (a kid or two is slacking) and Book 3 received 2 reads so far.
ReplyDeleteMy fav character was Katniss in books one and two and Gale throughout.

when I saw this book a few months back I was stoked I can't wait to read them all again ;)

Great giveaway! It would be a great addition for someone (me:) who wants to in the future teach The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteI've read the whole series once. It would be a great companion novel to Lord of the Flies or 1984!
One of my favorite scenes was in Mockingjay when Peta was planting the roses. It was just a beautiful and peaceful scene. I think it helped Katniss with moving forward. I still can't get it out of my head even though I read the book months ago.

I have only read it once. My favorite character is Peeta because he has a old soul. He is the most endearing sensitive character. Favorite part would have to be when katniss kills Coin.

I have read the hunger games about 3 times and the other books in the series twice. My favorite character is Gale because he is cute and sort of misunderstood. The unforgettable scene for me was when Katniss's sister dies.

1.)I've read The Hunger Games twice--the first time when it came out and the second time was when everyone was going crazy with Mockingjay fever. I hadn't gotten around to reading Catching Fire and I felt it was time to reread THG! Oh man, there were sooo many good moments in those books. Let's see... obviously the part where Katniss remembers the first time Peeta helped her by throwing her the burnt bread...and then afterwards when they talk in the cave and he tells her when he first started liking her. SIGH. So much goodness!

I've read the Hunger Games multiple times. My favorite character is Katniss. She is the series for me. My unforgettable scene is Katniss and Peeta threatening to eat the berries.

Well I can't honestly say how many times I have read them. Enough that my books are very worn! And you will probably guess based on my GFC follower name that Katniss is my favorite character. She is just to hardcore not to love! I would say the most unforgettable scene for me *spoiler alert* is when the tube goes up around Katniss and Cinna is attacked. I gasped!

I have read The Hunger Games trilogy 3 times now and they have become one of my favorite books. Of course Katniss is my favorite character. She is beyond brave and all motivated by love. It all started with the love for her younger sister. The most unforgettable scene in the book for me is when she stands up to the Capitol by almost eating the night lock berries when she and Peeta couldn't both be victors of the Games. These books are UNFORGETTABLE. I'll say it again, UNFORGETTABLE.

I have read them once. But the second time is coming around soon, since my goddaughter just started - so I will read with her now. My favourite character is Peeta probably, not sure if I can articulate why, but that scene where he is with the bad guys in the first book, and running around crazy, and he sees Katniss and he stops - in my head that was the meta of all scenes - the way friendship broke down, even his own safety. Such a great character and such a great scene.

I have read the first two books twice and the third book only once. I think I need to re-read that one and give it another chance. I expected too much from it and was a little disappointed. These are definitely some of my favorite books! I loved watching the relationship between Peeta and Katniss grow. I'm a follower!

1) I've read the entire series only once, only because I don't know if I can stomache another read.. The plotline is just so intense, all the time!

1. I read them twice and my favourite character is probably Finnik because he's hot obviously ;D but also because he becomes such a tragic character in the last book. One unforgettable scene for me was how Katniss was attacked by those wolf mutants in book 1.

My favorite character is Prim. I usually go for the minor characters more than the main characters. Plus I have an older sibling so I can relate to her. My favorite scene is probably in THG when Katniss steps up for Prim, or at the end of Mockingjay. The chapter with Prim. I won't say anymore because I don't do spoilers, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I think that chapter just takes your breath away. So surprising.

Count me in only if it's international.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite character is Katniss, closely followed by Peeta. Katniss because we were allowed into her thoughts and Peeta because he loved Katniss, and was a GOOD person.
One of my favourite scenes is 'the cave scene'.

I've read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire twice and Mockingjay once. My favorite character would have to be Katniss. I just feel like I know her the most and I like most of her qualities. I think the most memorable scene for me would be when Rue died. It was just so sad because she was too young to have had that happen to her.

I think I've read The Hunger Games at least five times already now. In fact, I know the book so well that my friend played a game with me. She would say a line from the book, and I would have to say what scene that was. I never failed. XD

IT WAS DEPRESSIG!!!! :'( my e-mail is pamelakaye101@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI've read the Hunger Games twice. My favorite characters is Katniss, of course because she's so bad ass. And one of my favorite scenes is when Katniss sees all the things Peeta has been doing for her, to make the audience like her. How he called for her and all, it was very sweet in a twisted Hunger Games way.

Thanks for the amazing giveaway! I've read the entire series only twice. :(
ReplyDeleteMy favorite character... well. If you asked me while I was still reading the series, I'd say Gale. But I've changed my mind to Haymitch, because without him, Katniss and Peeta would be dead. So.. yeah. lol.
My favorite scene has to be the one mentioned in Catching Fire. When, you know, Gale kisses Katniss for the first time! Yep, I was Team Gale. :D

I have read the Hunger Games entire series just once, but I have read the first two twice in preperation for Mockingjay's release. My favorite character is Peeta. Hands down. I love his strength of character and innate goodness. Love him! One unforgettable scene (in the most heartbreaking way) was a certian death scene in the third book that I won't go into to avoid spoilers. It was shocking and sad and still stands out in my mind ages after having read the book.

I've read Hunger Games twice and the other two once. My favorite character is Peeta because he's the most compassionate and truly kind out of all of them. He had a child-like trust for everyone. A really unforgettably scene was when Peeta attacked Katniss in Mockingjay. That left me speechless because it really shows that even the best people can be torn apart by war and the world isn't a Disneyfied place. I've had people tell me they hate Mockingjay but I think that book was the best because it was so powerful that I don't believe I could have ever lived gratefully for everything I have without it.

Thanks for the opportunity. I've been super excited to read this book. I'm a follower! :)
ReplyDeleteI have read HG twice so far, but only because people keep borrowing them before I can start again!!
My favorite character is Katniss. She's not your typical YA female, who can't do anything but somehow becomes the most powerful person in the story. No, she mostly just stays alive by knowing how to survive, and trying to keep those around her safe.
Unforgettable scene? At the reaping, when Katniss takes Prim's place. I thought it was very touching, especially when no one is surprised that Peeta's brothers don't take his place; it's not something that's expected, or normally done, which made Katniss' willingness all the more important.
