Bloody Bookaholic's Commandment:

Thou Shall Read Till Thy Eyes Bleed

So I started reading Skinny by Donna Cooner

Skinny

But it's s simple solution, really. Girl loves boy. Boy loves girl. Girl gets fat. Boy leaves. Girl cuts her stomach up into a little bitty pouch to get boy back.

"You will die," Skinny hisses in my ear.

I don't care. If I die, I die. I will do whatever it takes. I will let them cut my stomach open and change my internal organs forever. Even if I have to have a stomach the size of an egg for the rest of my life, I will never feel this way again.
Skinny, the character, is the voice inside our main characters head, Ever. Ever imagines her as a punk fairy, sort of Tinker Bell goes goth. Skinny, the book, is a contemporary read that deals with the problem of obesity and how it affects this 15 year old girl who is over 300 pounds. I mean, it isn't a supernatural read by any means but I am enjoying it. The main character Ever isn't exactly easy to relate to (as in she is sort of hostile but with good reason) but once you get inside her head and know all the problems she deals with on a day to day basis it is hard not to really pay attention and get engrossed in the story.

Skinny is a strong novel, and so anything I say about it in my ears it sounds like it could potentially be read in the wrong way, but the flow of the novel is really good. I am liking the characters, and I can't wait till the next part when Ever finally gets her wish. Can't wait to see how it changes her life and her perspective.

The Many Reasons I Hate J.K. Rowling's New Book's Cover (The Casual Vacancy)

The Casual Vacancy

When I first laid eyes on it I just couldn't breathe. Is this what the world has come to? Let me go on a rant here.
  1. It is plain.
  2. What's with those colors?! It's like, yellow, and that weird peach that borders on reddish... It makes my eyes want to drink heavily and then jump off a building just to see which hurts more, the dying or looking at this cover for more than a second.
  3. We have come a long way in book covers, this looks like a cover of a book made in the 70s. The colors remind me of the 70s.
  4. It has no real artistic flare, it's boring-bore-bore.
  5. What's with the X?
  6. At least the book's name goes a bit with the cover, if you focus on the vacant part (it has a vacancy in artistic drive).
  7. You bother me cover, you really do.
  8. I know you are trying to stay away from being associated with HP, but this is cover suicide!!
I hate it. There, I said it in plain English. I dislike it, I am not a fan, no me gusta.

Please let this not be the FINAL cover, and just a vicious prank.

Sincerely,

I'm sorry, did not mean to be hostile, but I really don't like it T__T

And so I received a lot of different opinions on the question I asked in this giveaway, I appreciate everyone who commented! I think that considering my budget and everything doing a big giveaway is the way to go with multiple winners in which the winners choose the books they want from a list (winner number one first, then the second, etc). It's going to be a FALL BLOWOUT giveaway and it's going on soon so STAY TUNED!!
