Blogger Question: What is Linky Followers?

And should I use it? I've seen it pop out on several blogs that I follow, and I've also seen others that have deserted the Google Friend Connect in favor of Linky, but I just don't know what it is exactly, why are people using this now, and what are the advantages. I think if I hear it from another blogger or one of my followers who likes the experience I could finally decide as to if I should add this following option to my blog or not. What do you guys think?

  1. Wordpress bloggers have started using it since google has discontinued GFC for non-Blogger bloggers. I'm on Blogger, so I have no immediate plans to start using it.

  2. Personally, I don't use Linky Followers. I still use GFC. If I find a blog that I like, even if they are Wordpress, etc. I just add the URL in my Blogger Dashboard and follow them that way. I prefer this, because I don't want to have to got to a second site just to see blog updates. I really honestly don't get what the big deal was with GFC. I am still able to follow any blog I want to, and I haven't lost any of the blogs I was following. I guess it maybe has more to do with non-Blogger followers being able to follow me? But that is what I have RSS Feed, Twitter and Facebook for. Link Followers just takes up more space on my sidebar...but that is just my opinion.

  3. Basically because some systems are no longer going to be supporting Google Follow, the owners of 'Linky' have come up with a new way of following that works on all types of sites (blogger/wordpress/independant websites etc)

It basically works the same as GFC, but obviously the follower stats don't come up on your blog dashboard, you have to log onto your Linky follower site to monitor them. But it's easy for people to follow, you just put the HTML code onto your blog and click add and there it is and people can start following straight away.

Basically it's just another way to make sure you can stay in touch with your favourite blogs. I've been using it for about a month and found it really useful and easy to use.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions just stop by my blog and leave a comment. :D

  4. Hmm so by the info I'm gathering is good for the people who already have an account on Linky, and I could start using it just so those people can follow me on the way they like, but other than it isn't really helpful to me in the broader sense. Okay, thanks guys!!

  5. Honestly, I'm a lemming and started using it once GFC stopped working with Wordpress. I'm going to try it out for awhile and see if it gains traction. So far not looking huge. My GFC was around 500 but only about 15 on the Linky Follower so far.

  6. They basically do the same thing, but WordPress blogs can't post GFC on their blogs anymore.

I'm using both Linky Followers and GFC. This is so that as many people as possible have an easy option for following.
